How to Become More Like Jesus

Daily Walking as Jesus Walked

Follow Jesus

Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.”

Union with and indwelling of Christ

Colossians 1:27 …the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Ephesians 3:17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

John 15:5 [Jesus said] “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”

John 17:23 I in them, and the Father in Me…

2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?...

Two main guides:

I.                    Sermon on the Mount - Matthew 5-6

II.                  1Cor. 13:4-8

What we cannot do:

1.      Die for the sins of men.

2.      Raise ourselves from the dead.

3.      Any miracles on our own; must be God’s will.

Matthew 8:2… a man with leprosy approached him and knelt before him. “Lord,” the man said, “if you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean.” 3 Jesus reached out and touched him. “I am willing,” he said. “Be healed!”

1 Cor. 12:31 Now eagerly desire the greater gifts. And yet I will show you the most excellent way.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 Love is patient and is kind; love does not envy; love does not boast, love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 Love does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, Love is not easily angered, it’s not easily provoked, thinks no evil; 6 Love does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. -- Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never fails.

Rom. 5:5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out on our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

A.     Pray to be filled with the Holy Spirit

Eph. 5:18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit.

Expect by the power of the Holy Spirit to move and touch others like Jesus.

B.      Do Good

Acts 10:38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

        C. Seek to Love others – constantly

        D. Forgive others quickly

        E. Offer mercy and grace to others perpetually

        F. Share the Gospel and Go in and become aware if people need prayer for healing and deliverance

Mark 16:15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues.”

G. Take charge in humility and power

Ephesians 2:4-5 But God, who is rich in mercy… made us alive together with Christ … 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

(memorize this verse)

I.        Serve others

Matthew 20:28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.

J.       Sacrifice

Romans 12:1-2 …present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

1.      Be with Jesus every day – Seek Him all day

2.      Deeply partake of the Lord’s Table – communion.

John 6:56 He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.

3.      Expect to move in power and authority with grace and humility. Be open to help others Spiritually and in practical ways. Do not let little inconveniences, trifles, mistakes, little problems, vexations or people’s flesh get to you – vault over such or ignore such things (i.e., Jesus and Simon the Pharisee).

4.      Today, are you expecting to walk like Jesus?  (you are not an actor, but actors stay in roles, you can stay and remain in Jesus and move like Him).
